Dr.Ries and proposed legislation

Attached you will find a link to an interesting article found in the online Star Ledger.   New legislation is being proposed in order to determine how much our students have NOT learned during the past 9 months.    Read the article.  Have you learned anything new by having read the article?    Any thoughts with regard to this proposed legislation?   What recommendations would you give to the state legislators as they move forward?

  1. From the article, I had not realized the actual number of students that did not have internet access from their homes. Personally, this alone shows that virtual learning is definitely not an ideal way to present instruction to students. I think that it is important that they are developing some sort of way to assess students, but I feel it is not a true way we can assess students or teachers abilities. From what I have observed is that parents are helping their students when assessments are given. My cooperating teacher has asked parents to leave the room multiple times when trying to give pre-assessments. I am really not sure how we can change this and it's disappointing that the responsibility falls on the teacher. I think that there is not enough support from the state and higher up administration.
