Many schools are currently going all remote, due to the high cases of covid. Teachers have now spoken out about the workload that is connected to online teaching. They are saying that the workload is overwhelming and hard to handle at the moment. I have recently heard that some schools have announced that in order to ease the workload, they have designated that there be no homework for the weeks of the holidays. I have also heard that schools are designating mental health day for teachers by giving them Fridays off, starting in January.
Are all schools following in suit? If not why not? What is your school doing?
The school I am observing at has not mentioned anything so far about closing due to Covid cases and they have not talked about giving teachers mental health days. Luckily our school has been fortunate enough to not really have any cases (knock on wood). There have mostly been cases where over the weekends students had contact with someone with Covid and therefore stayed home from school. I will say that if schools are planning to go remote due to Covid cases that the idea of having mental health days for teachers is nice. I think they are all working extremely hard right now and deserve some down time where they aren't on their computers all day for once.
ReplyDeleteMy school has not mentioned anything yet but I hope that is the case! My school is currently doing full day remote and have been since September. A lot of the students and parents have been complaining so I can see there being a change for Winter.
ReplyDeleteThe school I am observing at does not have a particular set up for a mental health day. However, on Wednesday all students are virtual with their teacher throughout the district. I think that teachers are definitely overworked during this time. Additionally, they are struggling to reach every learner and dealing with various learning environments. I do think that mental health days for both teachers and students would be great to incorporate in this model.
